Configuring queries to show work item relationships

When you run a work item query, you can show the relationships that are associated with the work items that are in the query results. For example, you might want to view all of the child task work items that are associated with implementing their parent.

About this task

In the Work Items view, you can modify the type of relationship that is shown in the Summary column of query results.

Procedure

  1. Run a query. You can either run a predefined query, as described in Using predefined queries, or create and run your own query, as described in Creating queries.
  2. In the Work Items view, on the far right side of the toolbar, click the View menu and then click Relationships.
  3. In the Relationships window, select the relationships to show in query results, and then click OK.

Results

Depending on the type of relationship that you selected, the work item relationships are shown in the Summary column of the query results. For example, if you chose to view children work items, all of the child work items are shown under the Children heading.
