Work Items view

When you run a query, the Work Items view displays the results in a table. You can sort the results according to column heading by clicking a column heading. Click the column heading again to change the sort order (ascending or descending).

In the Work Items view, you can filter the query results by entering text. As you type, your text is displayed in the Filter Box in the lower left part of the view. The Work Items view changes the result set table to show only those work items with Summary or Description fields that contain values that match the text.

To retrieve a specific work item, enter the work item ID in the entry field in the status line on the bottom of the workbench window. The work item opens in the work item editor. You can also enter text in the same entry field. The matching work items are displayed in the result set table.

You can perform an operation on multiple work items by selecting the work items in the result set table, right-clicking, and selecting the operation. The operations available from the menu vary depending on which column you are in when you right-click the selection. For example, you might change the priority of multiple work items by selecting the items and then right-clicking in the Priority column.

Relationships between work items in the query result set and other related items can be represented in expandable and collapsible hierarchies in the Summary column. Such relationships can include parent or child, related, or blocks. You can also view relationships and links by adding the appropriate columns in the query results.

You can use the tool bar icons in the Work Items view to perform the following actions:

  • Create a query.
  • Edit the query that you last ran.
  • Run a query, including a query that you added to your Favorites folder.
  • Rerun the query that you last ran.

  • See your recent history of queries and their results.
  • Display the Filter Box at the bottom of the view so that it is always visible.
  • Specify which column headings to display in the result set table.
  • Specify which work item relationships are represented in the result set table.
  • Pin the query results.
