Setting ISPF client preferences

You can configure the Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF) client to use the same options each time you log on.

  1. In the Engineering Workflow Management Primary Option Menu, enter a 0 (zero) on the Option line and press the Enter key.
  2. Enter your preferences for any of the options to use in your client setup.
    Client code page
This preference has no effect on file system operations. It has two purposes in the ISPF client:
    1. To set the code page that is used when Unicode escape sequences returned from the daemon are converted. Code pages are converted when the daemon returns the name of a repository workspace that contains a Unicode character.
    2. To specify the code page that is used to compare incoming and outgoing files. The files are stored in the repository in UTF-8 format and not converted when they are loaded in the ISPF client. Files not in zComponent projects, for example, are converted to an EBCDIC code page only for comparison purposes.
Enter the correct code page. If you do not set a code page, the default code page (IBM-1047) is used.
    Client initial option
To start the ISPF client at a certain option, enter the option from the following list:
    • 1. Connections
    • 2. Workspaces
    • 3. Edit
    • 4. Build
If the option you select requires that you log in to the repository, you are prompted to log in.
    Client time zone
Enter your local time zone, such as EST5EDT. If you do not specify this option, the daemon attempts to calculate your local time zone.
    Client trace log Maxsize
The ISPF client logs various operations that fail. The trace logs are stored in the users home directory. Enter the maximum size, in bytes, that a log file can reach. The default size is 100 000 bytes. When the maximum size of the current log is reached, the log closes.

To view the trace logs in the ISPF client at any time, go to the Help action bar choice and select Display Logs.

    Client trace log number
Enter the number of logs to store in the work directory. The default number of log files is three.

When the maximum size (log Maxsize) of the first log file is reached, the file closes and another log begins. The closing and opening of log files continues until the number of trace log files is reached. When the number of log files is reached, logging begins again with the first log.

To disable the logging of client traces, specify a client trace log number of zero.

    Daemon port
Enter the port number where the daemon is listening. If you do not specify this option, the client connects to any available daemon found in the registry. For port information, contact the system administrator.
    Daemon registry directory
Enter the directory information where the daemon writes the location information. For the daemon registry directory information, contact the system administrator.
    Daemon timeout
Set this value to the number of seconds the client waits for any single operation to complete before the operation fails.
  3. When you finish entering all of the information for the preferences, press the Enter key to save the preferences.
