Searching for strings in data sets and members

You can search for a string or multiple strings in data sets or members, using the srchfor string command. The string value can be enclosed in single quotes or without the quotes. Double quotes around string are not valid. Enter srchfor without a string to display the SRCHFOR Options panel. On the SRCHFOR Options panel, you can enter additional search strings and other options.

Procedure

  1. On the z/OS Data Sets panel or the Source Control panel, enter srchfor string on the command line and press the Enter key.
  2. Optional: If you enter the srchfor string command on the z/OS Data Sets panel command line, ISPF searches for the specified string in all of the members in the displayed data sets. If there are data sets that contain the string, the first data set found with the srchfor string is moved to be the first data set on the page, and marked with *Found in the Prompt column.
  3. Optional: If you enter the srchfor string command on the Source Control panel command line, ISPF searches for the specified string in all of the displayed members. If there are members that match the string, the first member found with the srchfor string is moved to be the first member on the page, and marked with *Found in the Prompt column.
