Associating work items with records

You can associate a work item with a record when you update an existing work item or when you submit a new work item.

Procedure

  1. Update an existing work item or create a new one.
  2. Click the Links tab.
  3. In the Links control, click the down arrow Screen capture of down arrow icon that is associated with the link-type menu and select Related Change Request.

    If you have not established a ClearQuest® session, you are required to authenticate. In the Authorize window, enter your user ID and password and click Continue.

  4. Specify the following information about the link that you want to create:
    1. Select the schema repository and user database location of an existing record that you want to link to, or the location of the new record that you want to create.
    2. Select either the Link to existing option to link to an existing record, or the Create new option to create a new record.
      • If you select the Link to existing option and click OK, the Choose ClearQuest Record dialog box opens. There are several ways to search for the record that you want to link to:
        • Enter a term in the Search Key field. Select the type of search to perform (Full Text or By Unique Key), select the record type to search on from the Record Type menu, and click Search. The result set is displayed.

          Select a record to link to. To select multiple records, press and hold the Ctrl key. Then click OK. The Choose ClearQuest Record window closes.

        • Click Browse. The Select Query window opens. Select a query from either your Personal Queries folder or the Public Queries folder to narrow your search and click OK. The Select Query window closes and the result set is displayed in the Choose ClearQuest Record window.

          Select a record to link to. To select multiple records, press and hold the Ctrl key. Then click OK. The Choose ClearQuest Record window closes.

      • If you select the Create new option, select a record type and click OK. The new record window opens. Enter information in the required fields and click Save. The new record window closes.

    The related record link is created and appears in the Links section under the Related Change Requests heading.

  5. Move your mouse pointer over the record link to see a summary of the record. Click the record link to open the record in the ClearQuest web client.
  6. Be sure to click Save to save the link in the work item.
