Lesson 5: Use the view to focus on specific artifacts

In this lesson, you select a specific artifact in the complex Traceability: feature - test environment view, and you explore the related artifacts. To determine what artifacts are related to a specific test environment, you run dependency analysis in the view.

Procedure

  1. Select a specific feature, and explore the related artifacts.

To focus on the high difficulty feature Support dividend processing via mobile devices feature, click the node. The link to the related artifact, and the related artifact are highlighted in orange.

Click a node to focus on an artifact

Select the check box in the Support dividend processing via mobile devices node, and the selected node is highlighted. The nodes that are not selected are grayed out. The link to the related test case, and the related test case node are traced with a bold line, and can be easily identified.

Select a node to explore related artifacts

  2. Select the related test case. In the complex view, the related test results are not visible on the page. You must scroll down to find them.
Related artifacts hard to find on the page
To easily link to the related test results, right-click the test case, and click Select > Test Results. The two related test results are 34 and 35. Select each artifact.

    1. Select Firefox_Db2_Windows.
    2. Click Dependency analysis > Traverse upstream to explore all the related upstream artifacts.

Select a node and run dependency analysis to explore nodes upstream

The view shows all the artifacts associated with the selected test environment node.

The image shows upstream artifacts related to the focus artifact

  5. Save a copy of the selected artifacts and the relationships among them by clicking Save Snapshot.

Enter a snapshot name in the dialog box, and save the snapshot as public. The snapshot is saved as a child of the original view in the Shared Views folder.

Results

As a view user, you modified the complex Traceability: feature - test environment view to focus only on the artifacts that are associated with the Firefox_Db2_Windows test environment. By saving a snapshot of the view, you recorded your artifact selection, and you can revisit this subset of the original view.
