Updating character encoding of text files

The text files in Rational® ClearCase® are imported as Rational Team Concert™ source control text files with the system's default character encoding. You can change the character encoding of the files after the export and before you import the files into Rational Team Concert source control.

About this task

The export command attempts to encode text files with the system's default character encoding. If the file cannot be encoded, the file versions are reported to <output data folder>/logs/unencodableTextFileVersions.txt. You must review the file versions that are listed in the log file and determine the correct character encoding.

To correct the character encoding of the file in the extracted data, use the following command:

ccc update ccase encoding [ -d  |  --dataDir ] data directory [ -e  |  --encodingName ] encoding name [ --viewTags view tag [...]  |  --viewTagsFile view tags file ] [ [ -p  |  --filePath ] version extended paths file  |  version extended path [...] ]

Example

ccc update ccase encoding -d C:\ExportedData -e UTF-8 -p c:\ExportedData\logs\filesToEncodeAsUTF8.txt

What to do next

The import command imports text files that are based on the updated character encoding.
Note: You can still import the extracted data without updating the character encoding. The file versions that are listed in the unencodableTextFileVersions.txt log file are imported with the line-terminator option value, None (Binary).
