Integrating EWM and Rational ClearQuest

IBM® Engineering Workflow Management (EWM) includes several tools to help you integrate your work with Rational ClearQuest.
For IBM i operating systemNote: EWM on IBM i integrates with Rational®ClearQuest®. However, if you are running Jazz™ Team Server on IBM i, integration with this product is provided only as a technical preview. There is no implied support when running the team server on IBM i.

EWM includes the following tools:

  • Rational ClearQuest Synchronizer. The ClearQuest Synchronizer lets you work in both tools and share data. Through synchronization operations, the ClearQuest Synchronizer maps ClearQuest records, such as defects, to Jazz work items. When a user creates or modifies a ClearQuest record, the ClearQuest Synchronizer creates or modifies a corresponding work item. The creation and modification changes also flow from work items to ClearQuest records.
  • Rational ClearQuest Bridge. With the ClearQuest Bridge, you can associate ClearQuest records with Jazz work items and work with the records in an agile environment. Both the ClearQuest Bridge and the ClearQuest Synchronizer allow you to associate ClearQuest records and Jazz work items, but the ClearQuest Bridge does not require the creation and maintenance of synchronization rules or the duplication of data in multiple repositories.
  • Rational ClearQuest Importer: You can use the ClearQuest Import Wizard to import records from a ClearQuest user database into a project area. The imported records are stored as work items in the Jazz repository. The new work items are not synchronized with the ClearQuest records upon which they are based.

The main difference between the ClearQuest Synchronizer and the ClearQuest Bridge is that with the ClearQuest Synchronizer, data changes flow between the synchronized work items and ClearQuest records. When you change the value of a field, such as Priority, in a work item, the change is propagated to the ClearQuest record with which the work item is synchronized. Likewise, changes that you make in ClearQuest records flow to their corresponding work items. With the ClearQuest Bridge, links are established between work items and ClearQuest records, but data changes do not flow between them. To support the flow of data changes that the ClearQuest Synchronizer provides, you must create synchronization rules that define the mapping of fields. As a result, it is easier to configure the ClearQuest Bridge than it is to configure the ClearQuest Synchronizer.
