Lesson 7: Shut down the sprint

In the last lesson, you completed the sprint review. In this lesson, you continue as the scrum master. You shut down the first sprint and get ready to start the next one.

About this task

When you created the project area by using the Scrum process template, the plan for Sprint 2 was also created.


  1. In the Login window, log in as the scrum master by typing marco in both the User ID and Password fields.
  2. Open the second Sprint Backlog in your project by clicking Plans > All Plans, and then clicking Sprint Backlog [Sprint 2 (1.0)].
  3. Plan the next iteration by using Sprint 2:
    1. On the Notes tab, type the sprint goal, and then click Save.
    2. Add items to the sprint by using the same approach that you used for Sprint 1.
    3. If the current sprint contains unfinished stories, move them to the new sprint. To move an unfinished story from Sprint 1 to Sprint 2:
      1. Click Plans, and then click Current Plans.
      2. Click Release 1.0 Backlog to open the plan.
      3. On the Planned Items tab, make sure that the Iterations view is selected.
      4. Drag the items from Sprint 1 to Sprint 2.
      5. Click Save.
      Important: You must individually move the children of a story; otherwise, the children are not be assigned to the new sprint.
  4. Select Sprint 2 as the current sprint:
    1. Click the down arrow that is next to the Administration (Administration) icon, and then click Manage This Project Area.

    2. From the menu on the left, click Timelines.
    3. Expand Main Development > Release 1.0, and then click Sprint 2.
    4. Click the Set the Selected Iteration as Current (set the selected iteration as current) icon, and then click Save.
  5. When you add a new iteration for the project, add the iteration by using the same window in which you select a current iteration:
    1. Click the release that you want to create an iteration for.
    2. Click Create Iteration.
    3. Type an identifier and a display name for the new iteration.
    4. Adjust the dates and click Finish.
    5. Click Save.
      Remember: Create a plan for the new iteration and associate it with the new iteration. When you create a plan, it is associated with the current iteration by default.


You are now working in Sprint 2.
