Setting up file compare utilities

You can use an external compare tool as the default compare utility in IBM® Engineering Workflow Management client for Microsoft Visual Studio IDE.

Before you begin

An external compare tool must be installed on your computer.

Procedure

  1. In Microsoft Visual Studio, click Tools > Options.
  2. In the Options window, click Source Control > Jazz Source Control > Compare Tools.
  3. To use the external compare tool as the default compare utility, select the Use an external compare tool instead of the default compare utility check box.
  4. From the External Compare Tools to Use list, click an external compare editor tool. You can use the <<custom>> option to use a compare tool other than the ones in the list.
  5. Click Browse to select the file that corresponds to the compare editor. You must not modify the compare arguments. For more information about the compare arguments, see the Compare arguments topic.
  6. Optional: To use an external merge tool to automatically resolve conflicts during certain source control operations, such as accept and resume, select Use an external compare tool to auto-resolve conflicts. Add arguments to the Auto-Resolve field.
  7. Click OK.

What to do next

To compare a file, double-click a shared file; or right-click a file and click Open in Compare Editor or Open in External Compare Tool.
