Using a different STEPLIB environment variable in the ISPF/TSO client

The STEPLIB environment variable represents a list of load library data sets. When you configure your ISPF/TSO client gateway, you must configure STEPLIB to contain the load library data sets that contain the TSO/ISPF client gateway modules.

About this task

The STEPLIB environment variable represents a list of load library data sets. When you configure your ISPF/TSO client gateway, you must configure STEPLIB to contain the load library data sets that contain the TSO/ISPF client gateway modules (if they are not contained in the LINKLIST environment variable). If you want to run a command that requires access to additional modules, you must also specify those modules in STEPLIB; for example, if you want to run any DB2 BIND commands, in the STEPLIB variable, you must specify the data set that contains the DB2 BIND command.

Procedure

  1. Create an HFS directory where you have write access; for example, issue the mkdir -p /u/yourname/ispf/bin command from an OMVS session.
Note: Make sure you change the yourname segment to something that is memorable and particular to you.
  2. Copy the ISPZXENV file from /usr/lpp/ispf/bin to the directory you created in step 1; for example, cp /usr/lpp/ispf/bin/ISPZXENV /u/yourname/ispf/bin.
Note: Make sure you change the yourname segment to match the directory you created in step 1.
  3. Edit the copied ISPZXENV file and change the STEPLIB variable.
  4. Save your changes.
  5. Open your build definition and go to the Properties tab.
  6. Specify the team.enterprise.build.ant.myISPFBinPath build property and the HFS directory path you created in step 1. You can use this build property to change the PATH environment variable so that the modified ISPZXENV file is used by the ISPF/TSO client when you build.
