Before you begin

Before you begin this task, ensure that the development team has a process for flagging fixes that need verification.

1: Determine what needs to be verified

As the development team works on their defects, you must determine what needs to be verified. You can add queries and relevant reports, such as defect list reports, execution status reports, and execution trend reports to your personal dashboard to help you determine whether the defects have been fixed. If you have access to a shared development dashboard, you can view the queries and reports there.

Throughout the project, track the defect backlog and communicate the status to all stakeholders. Refer to the quality objectives in your test plan and intercede when they are not being met.

Supporting tasks:

2: Deploy the latest build to the test lab

Identify a good build and deploy that build to the test lab, or find an existing deployment with the build that includes the latest fixes. If possible, set up build automation so that new builds are deployed daily.

Supporting tasks:

3: Run tests

After you deploy the latest build to the test lab, run tests against that build. Trace from the defect record to the test execution record and rerun the test execution records. Your goal here is to verify that the failed execution records now pass. Once verified, mark your tests as passed and communicate the results to the team. Reopen any defects that are associated with failed execution records.
