Chatting with team members

You can start a peer chat or multi-user chat with selected team members. You can also start voice calls, file transfers or invite team members to join a team discussion you are participating in.

Before you begin

You are connected to an application or server that supports chat.

  1. In the Team Artifacts view, expand My Team Areas and select one or more online team members.
  2. Right-click the selection; then click Chat.
  3. Optional: If you use Jabber, complete one of the following steps:
    • In the Chat view, to invite a Jazz™ user to a chat, drop the user into the participants list.
    • In the Chat view, select the participants list. Right-click the selection; then click Invite Users.
  4. Optional: To send a link to an artifact, in the Team Artifacts view, drag an item into a Sametime® chat window and send the link. The link can be opened in a web client or Eclipse client. Supported items include work items, team areas, team members, project areas, streams, and feeds. By default, links open in the Eclipse client.
Note: Drag and drop is not supported for the Eclipse client on Mac OS X.
  5. Optional: To add a comment from a chat window into a work item, in a Sametime chat window, right-click a text selection; then click Comment Work Item. A Work Item selection window opens in the Eclipse client and adds the selected text from the chat window.
