Requesting and viewing a package preview

Before a package build runs, you can request a package preview to see which objects will be included in the package.

About this task

When you request a package preview, the packaging process does not run. Instead, the process generates a list of artifacts that will be packaged when the packaging build actually runs.

Procedure

  1. To request a package preview, from the Team Artifacts view, expand the project area, Enterprise Extensions, and then Packages. Right-click the package definition and select Create Package. The Create Package wizard opens.
  2. Select Package Preview and choose one of the following options:
    • Work item packaging. Click Next, then add the work items to package. You can also select any or all of these options:
      • Include children of selected work items
      • Include impacted outputs
      • Open summary work item
    • Ship list packaging. Add a time stamp by using this format: YYYYMMDD-HHmmssSSSS. Alternatively, select a time stamp from the list.
  3. Optional: Add, Edit, or Remove objects in the Mapping Selection panel.
  4. Optional: To include objects in the ship list, click Add, Edit, or Remove and select the objects to include in the package.
  5. Optional: To exclude objects from the ship list, click Add, Edit, or Remove and select the objects to exclude from the package.
  6. Click Finish.
  7. To view the package preview, from the Team Artifacts view, expand the project area, Enterprise Extensions, and then Packages. Right-click your package definition and select Show Package Results.
  8. Find a package build result with a label prefix (Preview) and with a time stamp that matches the package preview.
  9. Double-click the package preview. The Package results editor opens. The results are just like a typical package result, except that the output files are not packaged.
  10. Select the Package Summary tab for more package information, including a table that lists all of the outputs that would be packaged. For IBM® i and z/OS® work item packages, double-click any entry in the Packaged Outputs portion of the Package Summary tab to view the work item that is associated with that output. The package manifest file, which lists all the outputs that would be packaged, is available on the Downloads tab.
