Auditing with IBM i

With the IBM® i audit feature, you can select a set of libraries where objects are created during team builds, and determine whether any objects are being created in those libraries outside of Engineering Workflow Management Build.

To audit one or more libraries, select the libraries in the Remote Systems view, and select Show Audit Report. This scans the selected libraries and identifies objects that were built using build specifications in i Projects (those that passed the audit), and objects that were built using other mechanisms or without using this product (those that failed the audit). The results are shown in the audit report.

For team builds, the object libraries that are used in the build definitions are secured, so only the builds requested or scheduled through this product are able to create or modify objects in those libraries. The audit report indicates potential security violations, which allows users to create or modify objects in the object libraries. Teams should scrutinize the list of objects that failed the audit and take appropriate action.

The view consists of two tabs: an Overview tab and a Report tab.

The Overview tab shows the list of objects for each library that was scanned. When an object is selected, it shows details such as a build tag, creation date and time, last modified date and time, repository workspace, snapshot, and a list of source members from which the object was generated (if any). The build tag is an identifier that is generated by the build. The repository workspace is the build workspace that was used by the build definition to load source members and objects from the repository. When the build runs, it creates a snapshot of the repository workspace. On this tab, you can choose to show only the list of objects that failed the audit or all objects.

The Report tab shows a list of objects that passed the audit and a list of objects that failed the audit. The list of objects that passed the audit includes details such as the build tag, creation date and time, last modified date and time, and a list of source members from which the object was generated (if any). The list of objects that failed the audit includes details such as the creation date and time, last modified date and time, and a list of source members from which the object was generated (if any). You can choose to print the report.

From either tab, you can choose to export the report as an HTML or PDF file. When exporting, you can use a custom design template created using the Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools (BIRT) from Eclipse to generate custom reports.
