Lesson 4: Create keywords from steps in a manual test script

In the previous lesson, you edited the test script, (QM Tutorial) Allocate Dividends to Multiple Causes, by adding an execution variable to a statement. In this lesson, you continue as the tester and create and add a keyword.

About this task

A keyword is any statement or group of statements that you can reuse in other test scripts. When a keyword is modified, all scripts that are associated with that keyword reflect the change automatically. You can create a keyword from the steps in a script or by using the keyword editor. In this lesson, you create a keyword from a set of steps in a script and then replace the steps with the keyword.

Procedure

Create a keyword from the steps in a manual test script:

  1. If you are not already logged in as the tester, log in by entering tanuj as both the user ID and password.
  2. Return to the (QM Tutorial) Allocate Dividends to Multiple Causes test script.
Tip: If the test script is not already open, click Construction > Browse > Test Scripts. In the section that opens, click (QM Tutorial) Allocate Dividends to Multiple Causes.
  3. Press Shift and click steps 2 and 5 in the test script.
  4. Click the Action Menu icon next to one of the highlighted steps. From the menu that opens, click Create New Keyword from 4 step(s).
  5. In the Create New Keyword window, type JKE Banking Login Keyword as the name of the keyword, and then click OK.
  6. When the Confirmation window opens, click Yes to replace the selected steps in the test script with the keyword. An expanded keyword in a test script.
  7. Save the test script.

Results

The keyword is created and replaces the selected steps.
Note: When you edit a keyword, all of the test scripts that use the keyword reflect the change automatically. To see the scripts that use a keyword, click Construction > Browse > Keywords and select a keyword. All of the scripts that use the keyword are in the Used By Scripts pane on the right side of the page:

What to do next

In the next lesson, you continue as the tester and run a test case execution record.
