Lesson 1.3: Create a virtual image

In this lesson, you, in the role of test manager, create a virtual image to add to the lab resources.

About this task

To create a virtual image:


  1. Log in as Tammy, the test manager. Type tammy for the user ID and tammy for the password.
  2. In the main menu, click Lab Management > Create > Virtual Image. The Create Virtual Image editor opens.
  3. Type BetaVirtualImage for the Name.
  4. In Owner, select Tammy.
  5. Click <Click here to enter a description>, and type Virtual image to manage frequent build updates for the description.
  6. In the General Info section, complete these steps:
    1. In Image Type, select VMware ESX.
    2. In VM Tool Used, type VMware.
    3. Leave the remaining fields blank.
  7. Expand the Operating System section and complete these steps.
    1. In OS Type, select Linux.
    2. Leave the remaining fields blank.
  8. Expand the Software section. Notice that Linux is displayed in the Software section. We defined the operating system type as Linux in the Operating System section.
    1. In Software Type, select Firefox.
    2. Leave the remaining fields blank.
  9. Click Save. The new virtual image definition is added to the test lab manager database and the new virtual image name is displayed at the top of the editor.
