Creating keywords

Keywords are small, reusable test scripts. You can create keywords using the manual test script editor, or by using the keyword editor.

Procedure

  1. To create a keyword from a manual test script:
    1. From an open manual test script, click the Create a keyword from this script icon Create a keyword from this script icon on the editor toolbar.
Note: This option is not enabled when the manual test script is already associated with a keyword or the edited manual test script is not saved.
    2. In the "Create a keyword from this script" window, type the name of the keyword and any tags to associate with it, and then click OK.
    3. In the "Create a keyword from this script" window, click Close.
    4. Save the changes by clicking Save at the top of the page.
  2. To create a keyword from one or more steps in a manual test script:
    1. From an open manual test script, open the editor by clicking the text or white space in the Manual Steps area. On the editor toolbar, click the Create a keyword from this script icon Create a keyword from this script icon.
    2. Select the steps that you want to use in the keyword. To select multiple steps at once, press Shift and select the steps.
    3. Click the Action menu beside the number of a selected step. Then, click Create New Keyword from [n] step(s), where [n] is the step number of the selected step.
    4. In the Create Keyword window, type the name of the keyword and any tags to associate with it, and then click OK.
    5. If you want to replace the selected steps with the new keyword, select Replace the selected steps with the created keyword.
Remember: When a keyword is added to a script, it is marked with the Keyword icon Keyword icon.
    6. In the Create Keyword window, click Close.
    7. Save the changes by clicking Save at the top of the page.
  3. To create and manage keywords with the keyword editor:
    1. Click Construction > Create Keyword. A new keyword opens in the keyword editor.
    2. Type a name for the new keyword, and then type other information about the keyword, such as the summary, tags, description, and associated scripts. When you create a keyword, you are not required to associate a script with it. You can make that association later. To use the Channels feature, associate a script with your keyword by using a channel . You can associate multiple scripts with a channel. Each channel, including the None channel, must have a default script.
Note: When a script is marked as the default on a channel, that script is used even if other scripts are associated with the keyword on the same channel. For example, on Channel X, Script B is the default script. If Script A and Script B are associated with a keyword on Channel X, Script B runs instead of Script A.
    3. After you create the keyword, click Save.

Results

The new keyword is added to the Keyword View in the manual test script editor, and to the Keywords page, which you can access by clicking Construction > Browse Keywords.
