Lifecycle of test artifacts

This topic shows the default life cycle of a test plan, a test case, a test suite, a test script, a test case result, and a test suite result. The default states are Draft, Under review, Approved, and Retired.
Note: Starting in 4.0, you can customize these states and actions. For more information, see Defining custom workflows for test artifacts.
By default, a test artifact begins its life cycle in the Draft state. When an artifact is ready to review, the state is set to Under review. When the artifact is approved, the state is set to Approved. If the artifact is rejected, the state is set back to Draft. If an approved artifact is reopened, the state is set back to Draft. If an approved artifact is retired, it's state is set to Retired. If a retired artifact is reopened, its state is set to Draft again. The following diagram illustrates this life cycle:
