Creating lab resource requests

You can create requests for lab resources whenever you need the assistance of a lab manager to provide and configure a lab resource with a specific hardware and software configuration.

About this task

To create a new lab resource request:


  1. In the main menu, click Lab Management > Create > Request. The Create Request editor opens.
  2. In Priority, specify the priority of the request: low, normal, or high.
  3. In Respond by, specify the date and time by which you need a response from the lab manager about this request.
  4. Click <Click here to enter description> and type a descriptive heading. This field is required.
  5. In Reservation, specify the start and end dates and times for which you need the lab resource.
  6. Expand Lab Resources and provide the information for the lab resource that you are requesting.
    1. In Type, select the type of lab resource you need. You can select Machine, Physical Machine, or Virtual Machine.
    2. To define additional attributes, click the Add Criteria icon (Add attribute). The Select Criteria window opens, showing fields of information that you can include in the lab resource definition.
    3. To select items one at a time, click the item, and then click Add. Repeat until you have completed all the fields you need, and then click Add and Close. To select multiple items and add them all at the same time, press and hold the Control key and select the items, and then click Add and Close. These fields are added to the lab resource description and are displayed under Type. Enter information for each of these fields as needed.
    4. To add another lab resource description, click the Add lab Resource Description icon (Add).
    5. To populate the Lab Resource section with information from a predefined test environment, click the Add From Test Environment icon (Copy), select a test environment, and click OK.
  7. In the Comments section, type additional descriptive information.
  8. There are several options for completing this request:
    • To send the request to the lab manager, click Submit.
    • To save the request as a draft without submitting it, click Save.
    • To clear the form, click Discard.
    • To cancel the request, click Cancel Request.

What to do next

Saved and submitted requests are displayed when you select All Requests from the Lab Management menu.
