Viewing and clearing suspect traceability

If you are working in a project that is not enabled for configuration management, you can view suspect link indicators in various contexts in the Requirements Management (RM) application. You can open suspect artifacts, review their history, and remove suspect indicators.

Before you begin

  • You must be working in a project that is not configuration management enabled.
Important: Suspect traceability is not supported in projects in which configuration management is enabled. However, you can now use link validity in Configuration Management enabled projects.
  • Your project administrator must create at least one suspicion profile for the project.
  • You must select a suspicion profile to enable suspect traceability indicators for changes to artifacts that are linked by specific link types. To select a suspicion profile, click the Suspicion Profile iconSuspicion profile icon in the toolbar and select a profile.

About this task

When you are viewing a list of artifacts on the Artifacts page or in a module, you can show the Suspicion column. If an artifact links to one or more artifacts that changed according to the conditions in the suspicion profile, the Suspicion column contains a suspicion indicator .

If suspicion exists, the indicator is shown in these locations:
  • The sidebar of an artifact, in the Overview section, next to the Is Suspect field.
  • The Suspicion column of the Artifacts page. If that column is not on the page, you can add it by clicking the Configure Page Settings icon Configure Page Settings icon, clicking Configure Columns to Display and then selecting the Suspicion column.
Tip: To reuse a column layout, save it in a view. For more information, see Filters and views for artifacts in requirements projects.
  • The project dashboard, in the Requirements View widget. In the widget settings, select a view that shows the Suspicion column. This example shows such a view:

  • If a link type that the suspicion profile tracks is shown in a link column, the suspicion indicator is shown on links.
Suspicion indicators for links: When an artifact is the cause of the suspicion, its link columns are not marked with outgoing suspicion indicators. For example, in this image, artifacts 357 and 310 link to each other. If you change 310, 357 is marked as suspect in both the Suspicion and Satisfied By columns. However, in the columns for 310, no suspicion indicators are shown.
Outgoing suspect link is not showing
  • The summary of the linked artifact that is shown when you hover over a link.
  • A traceability link in the Links section of the sidebar, as shown in this image:

You might notice a brief delay between when a change to an artifact is saved and when the indicator is shown. By default, records are refreshed every 60 seconds. Your project administrator can adjust this interval.
