Running data warehouse reports in the Requirements Management (RM) application

By using a reporting server, you can run and view requirements management metrics reports that are based on the data in the data warehouse. The reports show information about requirement artifacts and traceability information about related quality management and change management data.

Before you begin

Before you can run or view a data warehouse report, you must either install the Report Builder or IBM Cognos for Business Intelligence.
Important: Projects that are enabled for configuration management do not populate the data warehouse and are therefore not included in any data warehouse reports. For information on reporting on configuration data, see reporting on data in configurations.

If you are using Cognos reports, Rational® Reporting for Development Intelligence is no longer available as an optional component for IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM). To continue using Cognos reports with ELM, you must install IBM Cognos Business Intelligence and then install ALM Cognos Connector.

About this task

The following information applies only to creating reports with IBM Cognos for Business Intelligence. (See the help for the Report Builder for an even easier method of creating reports.)
Important: Metrics about requirements management are not collected in the data warehouse by default. For information about enabling data collection, see Collecting data with the data collection component.
Tip: When an artifact is in a module, it represents a requirement in the context of that module and generates two separate artifacts in the data warehouse. In certain reports, such artifacts might be shown twice in the same report.
Many reports provide parameter values that you can select to determine which artifacts are in the report. For example, in some reports, if you adjust the Project, Priority, and Type parameters, you can filter the information that is in your report. In addition, many reports include graphics that you can click to show more information in a drill-through report.


  1. Open a requirements project.
  2. From the Manage Reports menu, click View Reports.
    Restriction: If Cognos Business Intelligence and ALM Cognos Connector are not installed, the View Reports menu item is not in the menu.
  3. Open the Sample Reports Definition folder, and then open the RM folder.
  4. Open either the Data Warehouse Reports folder or the Drill through folder, and then find a report to run. The drill-through reports are sometimes generated from the data warehouse reports.
  5. Run a report by clicking the icon in front of it. In some reports, you might also need to select report parameters and then click Finish.


The report runs, the results are shown, and information about the report is shown.
