Linking to existing artifacts in lifecycle applications

By integrating the applications of the IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM) and other lifecycle applications, you can create links to existing artifacts in Change and Configuration Management (CCM), Quality Management (QM), Design Management (DM), and Requirements Management (RM) applications. RM applications include IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS® Next (DOORS Next) and IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS (DOORS).

Before you begin

Lifecycle application integration must be configured before you can perform this task. For more information, see Engineering Lifecycle Management and Running the setup wizard. See also configuration information in Integrating the ELM applications and Design Management and Integrating the Requirements Management application and DOORS.
Important: When working in a project that is enabled for configuration management, before you can see links to artifacts in different ELM applications, you must first switch to a global configuration. See Selecting a configuration for more information.

To link to an existing artifact by using the lifecycle integration:

  1. Open a requirement or other RM artifact. Expand the Links section in the sidebar and click the down arrow at the Add Link to Artifact icon. Add link to artifact icon
  2. Select the link type that corresponds to the integrated lifecycle application:
    • Implemented By or Tracked By to link to development plan items, work items, defects or other CCM artifacts.
    • Validated By to link to QM test cases and QM test plans.
    • Derives to link to DM models and design resources.
    • References to link to RM objects.
  3. In the Create Link window, select an Artifact Container (project area), and click Choose Existing.
  4. Search for an artifact to link to.
  5. Select an artifact from the Matching list, and click OK.

What to do next

You can hover over the link in the Links section of the sidebar to view a summary of the linked artifact or click the link to open the linked artifact.
Note: If you need to remove a link to an object in DOORS, you must close the DOORS module before you remove the link in the RM application in ELM.
