Migrating Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence reports to Cognos Business Intelligence using the ALM Cognos Connector

Rational® Reporting for Development Intelligence is no longer included as an optional component with CLM. If you still want to use Cognos® reports with CLM, you can install ALM Cognos Connector to connect CLM with the Cognos Business Intelligence server. The ALM Cognos Connector integrates a stand-alone Cognos Business Intelligence server with a CLM server.

Before you begin

Tip: See this Upgrading from IBM® Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence (RRDI) to the ALM Cognos Connector article on Jazz™.net for a case study on how to perform this upgrade on Windows with WebSphere® Application Server and Db2®.
  1. The data warehouse must use IBM Db2, Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle for its database.
  2. Install and configure one of the following:

Customers with a valid CLM license can obtain a copy of Cognos Business Intelligence to be used with the ALM Cognos Connector, by downloading Cognos Business Intelligence from Passport Advantage®. The license is however restricted to be used only with CLM 6.0.x, in a similar way to Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence

Customers wanting to use Cognos Analytics 11 must purchase a license.

  3. (For Cognos Business Intelligence only) Deploy the Cognos application to WebSphere Application Server. Ensure that you follow the instructions that apply to WebSphere Application Server.
    1. Open a command window and enter one of the following commands from the [WASInstalldir]\profiles\[server]\bin directory:
      • managesdk –enableProfileAll –sdkname 1.7_64 –enableServers
      • managesdk -enableProfile -profileName [yourProfileName] -sdkname 1.7_64 -enableServers
    2. Verify your changes by running the following command:
      managesdk -listEnabledProfile -profileName [yourProfileName] -verbose
Checkpoint: Task help topic. Ensure that the Cognos report server is running successfully by opening the following URL in a browser:http://[Cognos_BI_server]:[port number]/p2pd/servlet/dispatch, where [Cognos_BI_server] is the WebSphere Application Server profile where the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence application is deployed.
Tip: The JAVA_HOME environment variable must point to the version of Java™ installed with the WebSphere Application Server where the Cognos application is deployed.
  4. Install ALM Cognos Connector.
