Installing ALM Cognos Connector

Rational® Reporting for Development Intelligence and Rational Insight® are no longer available. If you still want to use Cognos® reports, you must first install a stand-alone Cognos server. Then install ALM Cognos Connector to integrate your Cognos reports with your CLM server.

Before you begin

  1. The data warehouse must use IBM® Db2®, Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle for its database.
  2. Install and configure one of the following:
    Note:

Customers with a valid CLM license can obtain a copy of Cognos Business Intelligence to be used with the ALM Cognos Connector, by downloading Cognos Business Intelligence from Passport Advantage®. The license is however restricted to be used only with CLM 6.0.x, in a similar way to Rational Reporting for Development Intelligence

Customers wanting to use Cognos Analytics 11 must purchase a license.

  3. (For Cognos Business Intelligence only) Deploy the Cognos application to WebSphere® Application Server. Ensure that you follow the instructions that apply to WebSphere Application Server.
    1. Open a command window and enter one of the following commands from the [WASInstalldir]\profiles\[server]\bin directory:
      • managesdk –enableProfileAll –sdkname 1.7_64 –enableServers
      • managesdk -enableProfile -profileName [yourProfileName] -sdkname 1.7_64 -enableServers
    2. Verify your changes by running the following command:
      managesdk -listEnabledProfile -profileName [yourProfileName] -verbose
Checkpoint: Task help topic. Ensure that the Cognos report server is running successfully by opening the following URL in a browser:http://[Cognos_BI_server]:[port number]/p2pd/servlet/dispatch, where [Cognos_BI_server] is the WebSphere Application Server profile where the IBM Cognos Business Intelligence application is deployed.
Tip: The JAVA_HOME environment variable must point to the version of Java™ installed with the WebSphere Application Server where the Cognos application is deployed.
  4. Install the required version of Installation Manager. Downloads are available on Jazz™.net: https://jazz.net/downloads/ibm-installation-manager/
