Configuring users for Document Builder on WebSphere Application Server

Configure the users for Document Builder on IBM® WebSphere® Application Server 9.x by using these steps.

Before you begin

You must install WebSphere Application Server 9.x, Engineering Publishing, and the Document Builder web application, and then deploy the web application before you can configure the users.

The user roles should be defined for the rpeng application only, and not the dgaas application.

Review the Document Builder roles:

Administrator (pub_admin)
  • Can access the Administer menu option
  • Can monitor system health, view all running jobs, and assign runtime and environment variables
  • Can generate documents from the Document Builder
  • Can upload templates and style sheets into the Document Builder
  • Can assemble reports
  • Can define data source connections
  • Can generate documents from Document Builder
  • Can view output files and logs about their document generation jobs
  • Can schedule document generation

Procedure

  1. Open the administrative console in a browser. Example: http://server:port/ibm/console/logon.jsp
  2. Stop the deployed web application:
    1. Click Applications > Enterprise Applications. The com.ibm.rpe.web.app application you added is listed as the application name you entered.
    2. Select the web application.
    3. Click Stop.
  3. Configure the security roles:
    1. Click Users and Groups > Manage Users.
    2. Click Create and create three users: pub_user, pub_report_designer, and pub_admin

    3. To associate roles with the users, navigate to Applications > Application Types > WebSphere enterprise applications. In the Enterprise Applications table, click com.ibm.rpe.web.app link. Under the Detail Properties section, click Security role to user/group mapping link. These are the roles you can associate with the users for each of the services:
      • pub_user
      • pub_report_designer
      • pub_admin

    4. Associate the user roles with the users.
      1. For pub_user, add the pub_user role.
      2. For pub_admin, add the pub_admin role.

    5. Click OK and Save directly to the master configuration.
  4. Start the web application:
    1. Click Applications > Enterprise Applications. The com.ibm.rpe.web.app application you added is listed as the application name you entered.
    2. Select the web application.
    3. Click Start. The following confirmation message displays: Application com.ibm.rpe.web.app on server server_name and node node_name started successfully.
