Importing practices

You can import practices into process descriptions in a project area, team area, or process template. You can import practices that have been exported from other project areas, team areas, or templates or have been created in IBM® Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Method Composer.

Before you begin

To import a practice into a project area process description, you must be a member of the project area and have Modify the process description permission. To import a practice into a process template, you must have either JazzProjectAdmins or JazzAdmins repository group permissions.

  1. Perform one of the following tasks:
    • To import a practice into a project area or team area process description:
      1. Navigate to the Project Areas page in the administrative web interface. See Logging in for project administrators and team leads (web).
      2. In the list of active project areas, click a project area to open it in the project area editor. To import a practice into a team area, click the team area that is listed in the Team Area Hierarchy section.
      3. Click the Process Description tab.
    • To import a practice into a process template:
      1. Navigate to the Templates page in the administrative web interface.
      2. In the Actions column for the process template, click Edit Process Description icon, the Edit Process Description icon.
  2. Click Edit icon, the Edit icon, to go from Read-only to Edit mode.
  3. In the Practices pane, click Import Practices icon, the Import Practices icon. Click Browse and navigate to the archive file that contains the practice you want to import. Click OK.

This example shows how to import all of the practices from the OpenUp process library. From within IBM Engineering Lifecycle Optimization - Method Composer, you can export the library to a .zip file. Then, navigate to that .zip file in the Import window, as Figure 1 shows.

After the import operation finishes, the practices from the library are visible in the editor, as Figure 2 shows. You can then add, modify, and remove practices from the process description to customize it for your project.
