Lesson 3: Migrate a Design Management project from a version 3 release

You must migrate each Design Management project from a version 3 release that you want to re-create in Design Management 4.0.1 or later with the same comments and links. You can perform multiple import actions until the Design Management 4.0.1 or later project is equivalent to the Design Management project from the version 3 release.

About this task

If the project contains several source folders, you can perform incremental import actions where you add extra source folders to the import definition before each import request. With the multiple import process, you can create baselines for partial project data. The comments and links for resources that do not exist are not created until the corresponding models are imported.

Procedure

  1. In a browser, log on to the Design Management Server and create a new project area in Design Management 4.0.1 or later that has the exact same name as the version 3 project to migrate. You can add the same users and roles. After the migration, you can create links to other Jazz™ applications; you must create project associations. If you do not create project associations, the imported links will work if the friend server connections are defined.
  2. Configure the space for the new project. Custom link types do not migrate, but you can create them after a project is imported. In Design Management 4.0.1 or later, the predefined links are already deployed.
  3. Create the corresponding import definition for the Design Management 4.0.1 or later project that uses the same source folders and path maps that were used in the version 3 release of Design Management.
  4. Perform the import process. You can perform the import process multiple times if you incrementally add extra source folders to the import definition.
