How to set multiple timelines as Project Timeline

Rajat Singh (59833545) | asked Dec 10 '12, 2:00 a.m.
We have created two timelines:
2012 Cycle Timeline
2013 Cycle Timeline.

Under these timelines, we have created iterations for all the months of the year.

Now the issue:
When we try to add a schedule to the test plan, we can only see either 2012 Timeline or 2013 Timeline depending on which ever is made the project timeline.

What I am looking for is to make make both the above timelines as project timelines, so that we can select either of them depending on our release.

We of course can make one of the timeline as children of other; but however, we want to have them seperately.

Any inputs on this is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards
Rajat

Hi Rajat,
one way is to define a iteration with 2 sub iteration name 2012 and 2013.

This only works if you have separate Work Item Categories for the separate teams. But in most cases (certainly our case), this isn't possible or even expected. For us to have separate teams on separate schedules with the same Work Item Categories, we are forced to create separate timelines (not just separate iterations in the same timeline).

This has caused us a lot of problems and we still don't have a good solution that lets us use RTC as a proper project planning tool.
