Are there global RQM custom categories

Padraig Mac Seain (1323) | asked Nov 06 '12, 12:14 p.m.
Hi,

We have a number of custom categories for a test case which we also have at the test execution level. For example:

Test Case
   Custom Category : Priority
   Custom Category : Story

Test Execution Record
   Custom Category : Priority
   Custom Category : Story

Is there a way to sync these up, or is there a concept of a global category. Basically we want to update the category in one place, without have to update twice. i.e if we change 'Priority' in the Test Case, then 'Priority' in it's Test Execution Records will also change.

This capability coming in 4.0.1 may help you move away from duplicating categories on test cases and TCERs

No.  Categories are scoped to resource types (see http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/clmhelp/v4r0/topic/com.ibm.rational.test.qm.doc/topics/t_setup_categories.html).

Thanks Paul,

Not possible then.

As James pointed out, would it be worthwhile opening up an enhancement on this one? Not sure how easy it is to achieve?

As far as I know, there isn't.   This is something that would be really nice to have though.   Putting out an enhancement might be the way to go on this one.
