How to set default category for work item of child project area?

Hi there,

We have child project areas, that process share with a parent project area. The child project areas have different categories set up, to the parent project area.

Is there a way to set a default category for a work item created in the child project area, without breaking the process sharing of the child project area to the parent project area?

Thanks,

KH

Hi KH --

If you customize the Attribute Customization and Attributes and Types configuration data in the consumer project area, that project area will no longer inherit Attribute Customization and Attributes and Types configuration data from the sharing project area.  However, that consumer project area will continue to inherit the other process elements.  The following section is from this help topic:  https://jazz.net/help-dev/clm/topic/com.ibm.jazz.platform.doc/topics/c_sharing_project_area_process_web.html

Limitations of customizing configuration data

If you customize configuration data in a project area that consumes the process of another project area, all of the configuration data for that category is copied from the sharing project area to the consumer project area, and the consumer project area no longer inherits any of the configuration data for that category. For example, the figure below shows the categories of work items configuration data. If you customize the Types and Attributes configuration data in the consumer project area, that consumer project area no longer inherits any of the Types and Attributes configuration data from the sharing project area. Unless you are certain that you do not want to inherit any of the data for a configuration data category, do not make any changes to that category of configuration data in the consuming project area.

Hello,

Categories are not shared between process providers and consumers (parent and child project areas). Setting up a default category in the child will not keep the child from inheriting the process of the parent.

Hi Martha,

Could you confirm that if I perform the following actions on the CHILD project area, the proces sharing will NOT be broken,

a) Update the Project Configuration > Configuration Data > Work Items > Attribute Customization > Add Default Values (Category)

b) Apply this new Default Category setting to the Project Configuration > Configuration Data > Work Items > Types and Attributes > Attributes Default Values setting

I would have thought that because I have made a configuration to the Project Configuration > Configuration Data > Work Items > Types and Attributes section, this would break all other process inheriting features.

If could confirm that this is not the case, then that'd give me some confidence to go ahead and modify the child project area accordingly.

Thanks,

KH
