Reports not showing work items

Hi,
I'm working on trying out the Reports feature in the web ui so we can utilize it in a class. Yesterday evening, I created a project area, a team area, 2 iterations, and an iteration plan with work items in both iterations. I tried to view the reports, but the snapshot from the previous evening didn't show any work items so the reports were all blank. I tried to view the reports again this morning, and the only reports with data in them were the Work Items by Owner and Work Items by team area. The other reports in the plans section indicate that are no open work items, even though the Iteration Plan pages in the web ui clearly indicate there are open work items. Is this common? Am I making a typical mistake when creating the work items? Do the reports need a full 24 hours worth of data?
Any help is appreciated!
Lauren

I had another friend look over the empty reports, and we figured out part of the problem. Apparently, you need to check the specific parameter boxes (the generic defaults don't seem to work). So I was able to get information in most of the charts. But that doesn't explain the Display Chart error.

Not sure if this will add any insight, but I just tried to open the chart page in the Iteration Plan and it gave me the following error:

Display Chart
Reason: Report descriptor not found for: workitems.OpenWorkItemsByType
Report descriptor not found for: workitems.OpenWorkItemsByType

Hi James,
Thanks for the fast response! I started manually run the snapshot around 10:45 last night as I really wanted to see those reports. :) I viewed the active services and they were running. Is it possible my manual snapshot run conflicted with the scheduled snapshot run? I just went back to view Active Services and there is still a service currently running that I started. It seems like they should be done by now? The server should have been running all night.

Hi Lauren,

The "Work Items by Owner" and "Work Items by Team Area" are "live"
reports that present data from the repository, which would be why they
are the only two that have data.

1. Is there any indication in your server error log why the snapshot
might have failed to run?
2. Was the server actually up all night? If it's down around midnight
the snapshot might not run.
3. What happens if you try to run the snapshot manually? You can do this
as any user with admin privileges (specifically you need the
JazzDWAdmins repository permission) - go to the Reports web UI and click
on Administer Data Warehouse, then select Update All Snapshots.

To answer your questions, this isn't common, it doesn't sound like
you're making a mistake, and the reports do not need a full 24 hours
worth of data - whatever work item data is available when the snapshot
runs will be fine.
