Hallo,

Working from home I'm having a lot of problems with Rational Developer for Power Systems (RPG/Cobol).

The problem is if I leave RDP idle for awhile, and then come back to it, when I try to update a member, or get a member list, or anything else that requires accessing the server, I get this error from RSE:

RSEF1002: Operation failed: File system input or output error.

If I click the "details" button, it says "Message reported from file system: Read timed out".

If I disconnect from the server, then reconnect all is well again...   until I leave it idle again.   The amount of idleness required to trigger the problem seems to vary.  Sometimes 30 minutes seems to be enough to make it go haywire, but not always.   Once I left it overnight, and I didn't have a problem.

Any ideas?????????

Hi Andreas,

this could be due to how the connections are managed in your company's network. I would suspect that maybe the network disconnects idle connections (maybe even only from external sources). I would suggest talking to your networking team.

Hi Ralph, other connection like 5250 etc are working without this problem and cannot say in which time this problem occurs.

This might be realted even to specific ports, I am not a network specialist, but I have heared of silence logoff and some cases were related to what I describe, You can have a look at the log files (in the Eclipse .metadata folder). RTC does not have a timeout where the connection is dropped. The timeout that is there just times how long to wait for a ronnection response.
