RTC on Ubuntu 8.0.4 LTS - working

I know this is not officially supported, but I have just installed RTC 1.0 standard on Ubuntu Server 8.04.1 LTS (with the workstation packages loaded too so I could get a GUI). My Derby-based install worked without any problems.

Very clean install, and the new setup scripts that you can run after the installation of the server/clients is very useful if you are new to RTC.

hm.... Ubuntu is Linux isn't it? If so why do you think it is not supported?

There are too many flavors of Linux for IBM to officially support its
products on all of them. You are welcome to try the products on
unsupported flavors of Linux. But if you find a bug that can't be
reproduced on one of the supported platforms, IBM reserves the right to
not fix the problem. Many product teams will try to fix such bugs
(because it makes for happy customers), but there are no guarantees.

Hi Andrei

As David pointed out, RTC is officially supported on some versions of Linux, but there are many other distributions out there.

Sometimes, just knowing someone else has installed and run up RTC on a server can be reassuring :-)

Yes, this is in the RTC 1.0 plan:
https://jazz.net/development/DevelopmentItem.jsp?href=content/project/plans/jazz-plan-0.6.html#OperatingEnvironments

I've copied them here:
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 U1
- SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10 SP 1

If it makes you feel any better, I know of at least three Jazz Platform developers (Matt Lavin, Matt Jarvis, myself) who use Ubuntu as our day-to-day OS for both using and developing Jazz/Team Concert.
