RTC compression for binary files vs ClearCase

Hi, I have checked some previous messages in the forum about how RTC manages growth of binary files compared to ClearCase. If I have understood it correctly, RTC uses a compression approach vs ClearCase that uses both compressed and binary deltas for binary files.

Which is the recommended (optimal) solution to store binary files? Is the ClearCase solution approach better than RTC compression approach (in order to reduce database growth? Do you have any estimation of the compression rate for binary files in RTC?

We are going to use an SCM system to store many binary files and I would like to know which tool (ClearCase or RTC) manages better this type of files.

Thanks,

Ana

Which storage technique is best depends on the exact content of your
binary files. ClearCase lets you select what storage technique you want
used for a given type of file (compressed, binary-delta, etc. including
your own custom techniques), whereas RTC has a fixed storage mechanism,
so in general, you can always do as well or better storage-wise with
ClearCase.

 Hi Ana.

This article has more information about RTC's file compression scheme:

Hope this helps.
