DOORS Next Beta Support

Greg Taillefer (61517) | asked Jan 03 '12, 2:29 p.m.
What kind of support is available for us 'bleeding edge' users? We are installing the beta and will need some kind of support. We have an immediate need to implement requirements re-use, database wide operations and document generation. We are on the verge of implementing all of this in DOORS 9.3 using DXL. We have abandoned the idea of using BigLever Gears and pure::variants. So the alternatives for us are DOORS 9.3 and a lot of brute force or DOORS Next.

We are planning to use DOORS Next for projects that are product line related and have re-use needs and we will continue to use DOORS 9.3 in parallel for the bulk of our RM.

The license under which we make available beta code and interim milestones is very specific in ruling out production use. This is to protect you and us: from milestone to milestone during a release cycle, the data formats may change, capabilities may change based on customer feedback and data migration between milestones may be incomplete or error prone.

I'm glad to see your interest. Probably the best next step is to ask your IBM sales rep or Business Partner to arrange a meeting with someone in Rational product management and Rational customer programs to see what might be possible (and when).

We are not intending to implement 'production use'. We intend to pilot the beta on product line requirements in order to evaluate the requirements re-use feature. We are proceeding along the path that is documented on the DOORS Next project page. We have downloaded beta software and we are preparing a server to host the software.

My question is what support can I expect? The software is there for us to use. We would merely like some documentation in whatever form it may be at this time to help guide us during our evaluation. Is there someone managing the beta program? Someone organizing feedback?

I'm not a IBM rep., but I think this forum and the project area for DNG... are the only support for now.

You can asks questions in the forum and submit defects and enhancement request via the DNG project area.

Also, there is a wiki on the site that takes you through the steps of setting up a new project, importing existing data, etc.

DOORS Next Generation in not yet available for sale.

Like other products developed in projects on jazz.net, we anticipate the generally available version will be available for download here on jazz.net with a built-in trial license that runs for 60 days (I think it's 60 days).

When you buy one of these products, you get new license key(s) and install them in the server.

Betas and other interim milestones include a trial license key that typically is timed to last some months beyond the next major beta milestone or generally available release.
