RTC/RFT - License Usage

Robin Parker (32633738) | asked Nov 25 '11, 5:46 a.m.
Hi all,

Some of our users use RFT and RTC both installed into the same eclipse shell.

We've seen some interesting behaviour when using this configuration.

If the user opens eclipse and then opens a work item, they start using both their RTC license and they absorb a floating RFT license even though the user has only opened a work item.

Can anyone tell me if this is intended? Surely the RFT license would only be consumed once the user does something RFT related?

Thanks,

Robin

Hi Geoff,

Thank you for your reply.

Interestingly, I noticed that the RFT license isn't taken when eclipse opens. It is that opening of the work item itself that seems to trigger the license allocation.

I suspect that the same would be true of RFT on it's own in an eclipse shell though - that an action would need to be taken to get the license.

How do I contact the RFT Team?

Many Thanks,

Robin

Hi

Raise this via the normal IBM support route. You can also submit an enhancement request for RFT via the IBM RFE Community (on developerworks as I recall).

As I recall, many of the desktop tools like RFT (tools that don't really
have a server) take out a license as soon as you start up an Eclipse
shell that contains that tool's plug-in. But I agree, one would prefer
the RTC behavior where a license is checked out only when one actually
performs a significant operation provided by that tool. I'd suggest
submitting that request to the RFT team.

Cheers,
Geoff
