How to handle SocketTimeoutException during bulk deliver

I'm working on an import tool which imports SCM data from a third party repository (CMVC) to RTC. This tool extracts historical data from the repository and deliver it to RTC and thus can have huge data delivered at a time. Sometimes I get the following exception during this bulk import.

CRJAZ0099I When accessing the URL "https://rtcserver:9443/ccm/service/com.ibm.team.scm.common.IScmService" the following HTTP error occurred: "java.net.SocketTimeoutException"

I'm using following code snippet to deliver the code
IDeliverOperation deliverOp = IOperationFactory.instance.getDeliverOperation(null);

deliverOp.deliver(wsConnection, streamConnection, report);
deliverOp.run(monitor);

Please let me know how to handle this scenario when tool is continuously delivering data from workspace (for each baseline from 3rd party repository) to the target steam and I encounter this SocketTimeoutException problem.
