Upgrade RAM with pending assets?

JazzRUs Gogh (1061311) | asked Sep 13 '11, 2:13 p.m.
Hi,

One of our RAM server is version 7.1.1.1 and using CQ for workflow (approval workflow). We are planing to upgrade to v7.2, in this new version, we want to use RTC for the workflow instead of CQ, and we are planning to create the same workflow that is same states and transitions. The question is can we upgrade our RAM to v7.2 with assets still in pending states, that is not in Approve state yet? If we could then I am assuming the pending assets would have no problem to transit to its next state after we have replaced the workflow with RTC in our upgraded v7.2 version.

If it is not possible please advice what is the best way to get around it (we don't have an option to make all assets in Approved state before the upgrade)

Hi,

First of all DO NOT go to 7.2.x.x. Those are ancient. Those really must
not be used for any migrations from 7.1.1.1. There have been a huge
number of changes since then and many many fixes that have applied to
the 7.5 stream.

Please go to at least 7.5.0.2. 7.5.1 will be available at the end of
Oct. This the approved best supported latest version of RAM.

--------------

Pending assets are only available in legacy review processes. They
aren't available in lifecycles.

I ran a test with 7502. I had an asset in Review (pending) state for a
legacy review. I then added to the community a lifecycle that is turned
on for the same asset type.

Lifecycles take priority over legacy reviews. Whenever an asset is
updated there is a check to find the lifecycle that best matches the
asset conditions. If there is such a lifecycle that is different than
the current one then the asset is moved to the initial state of that new
lifecycle.

So, after migrating, all of the assets are still where they were before
migration. Then you would create a lifecycle with conditions. If you
then Update a legacy pending asset that matches that lifecycle's
conditions the asset will be saved and moved out of the pending state
and will be placed into the initial state of the new lifecycle.

If instead the pending asset was just state changed, (such as Accept a
review), then it will be left in the legacy review and simply moved to
the approved state.

So, the net is that when an asset is updated it moves to the appropriate
lifecycle (if it is different than the current lifecycle/review
process). If it is only a state change (such as move from Review to
Approved, or an action performed) then it does not change review/lifecycles.
