Upgrade Oracle
we have an upgrade to our oracle infrastructure in the near future, as part of this upgrade we will also be upgrading, 10g to 11g (where app support is available).
BF 7.1.2 (which we upgraded to earlier in the year), is hanging off 10g, but also supports 11g. I see in the BF Info centre that we need to deploy the oracle 11g instant client (rather than the 10g instant client). Apart from this, is anyone aware of additional steps to upgrade our BF database, Tech notes, etc ? I dont see anything specifically for this kind of upgrade (still looking though). |

Upgrading the DB is largely an outside of BF item. As long as the data itself is maintained - ideally through a DB backup - then BF doesn't really care what version of Oracle you are using, or that it was an upgraded Oracle instance. Mostly you will want to make sure you have the right client installed, and the LD_LIBRARY_PATH specified in the $BF_HOME/rc/buildforge script points to it in on UNIX. Also - if the DB server itself is changing then you will want to update the buildforge.conf files located in: $BF_HOME/Platform $BF_HOME/server/tomcat/webapps/rbf-services/WEB-INF/classes Of course you will also want to update the tnsnames.ora file in this case as well, but that is an Oracle item more than a BF item. As a safe matter of course I would recommend a dry run with a test system to make sure you have the steps specific to your environment ironed out. |

In addition to the information kris has provided, if the db host does change you will need to update the main.res in the $BF_HOME/Manager directory to avoid an issue in the future when upgrading.
