How to use LPA

I setup an LPA with a project hierarchy similar that depicted in https://jazz.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Fig8.png https://jazz.net/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Fig8.png of https://jazz.net/blog/index.php/2011/05/12/countdown-to-clm-2011-part-1-administering-lifecycle-projects/

With this kind of setup I find that managing project membership isn't much easier except at the top level. ie. I can't manage membership using LPA for example in the "lower level" the "SVT_RTC" project area.

If however I add SVT_RTC to the list of configured artifacts for the "CLM" Lifecycle project then I can manage membership/roles through the LPA, rather than having to go down to the individual SVT_RTC projects admin page.
Are there pros/cons/recommendations to either approach ?
