Is there a way to allow user access any project areas?

This may be a simple question, is there a method to allow users access any project areas (includes read, create and modify work items) and don't assign these users into each individual project areas? Somebody told me that it is possible by assigning role to these users, I still not understand.

Hi Morten,

You said Lisa has a license.  Does Lisa have the appropriate license installed (like Developer)?  https://jazz.net/help-dev/clm/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm.jazz.repository.web.admin.doc%2Ftopics%2Fc_license_mgmt_over.html explains what licenses give you Change Management capabilities.

I got a followup question in email:

But I find that the user is not able to see the project area if he is not assigned into this project. I heard from somebody that jazzAdmin can make a setting in somewhere; it will allow everybody to see all project areas even they are not assigned into some project as member. I am jazzAdmin in RTC repository, but I could not find where to make this setting.

I am not aware of a global setting you can make, but in each project area, this is specified in the Access Control tab. Select "Everyone" in the "grant read access to" section.

Cheers,
Geoff

What non-members can do in a given project area is specified by what
permissions that project area gives to the "Everyone" pseudo-role (that
is the role held by everyone in the repository).

So each project area makes this decision independently. These
permissions are specified in the Permissions section of Process
Configuration of a project or team area.

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi. I've tried this out (RTC v3.0.1):

1. Lisa has a user in the repository
2. Lisa has a license
3. Project x has "read access everyone"
4. Project x has permissions "Work Items (all sub points)" -> "Everyone"
5. Lisa is NOT a member of Project X.

Lisa cannot create or modify any work items in project. It does not seem like "Everyone" is repository wide, but only people being project members regardless of any role (or even having one).

As far as I know Geoff is correct with his assessment.

Can Lisa create work items that are filed against a category that is associated with the project area? If the category is associated to a team are where everyone does not have the permissions, you could not save there.

In addition there are two places in the process configuration that control what a user can do that cover different aspects. Project Configuration and Team Configuration, that control different aspects of work items. See https://jazz.net/library/article/291 for more details on permissions.

I just used MTM and removed Tnauj from the CCM project and any subteam. I made sure to give all required permissions and JKE is only the project area category. I could create a work item and file it against that category.

I just tried my above experiment again, and now it works. It seems that I got hit by the uncompromising cache-boogie-man :). Sometimes a restart of the Eclipse client is required it seems.

Thanks for your input.
