How to upgrade v7.1.1.1 assets to v7.5

JazzRUs Gogh (1061311) | asked May 27 '11, 2:49 p.m.
Hi

We have RAM v7.1.1.1, we are ready to upgrade to v7.5. How do one upgrade or migrate v7.1.1.1 assets to v7.5.? We have large number of assets, about 9000.

Thanks!

You need to have an existing database to be able to migrate. Just
installing 7.5.0.2 without pointing to existing database and existing
persist area won't migrate since it doesn't even know about it.

It doesn't matter where your RAM Websphere is installed. It is the data
that matters.

Where is your database and where is your persist area? That is what
needs to be moved to your Linux. Then just point to them in the server
installation and it will pick it up and migrate the first time you go to
RAM through the browser.

Hi,

Thanks for the link, I read it but not sure if it works for our situation.

Our RAM 7.1.1.1 is on windows, small system, we planned for a bigger box, a linux to host v7.5. If we install v7.5 on a linux box and v7.1.1.1 assets still on windows then correct me if I am wrong, I am afraid the steps listed in the document link wouldn't work. I just installed v7.5.0.2 on a linux box ,I didn't see the Migrate prompt, I think may be it was a fresh install of RAM on a clean system. Hence for our situation, how would you advise us to migrate the v7.1.1.1 assets in a windows system to a new box with fresh install of RAM v7.5.0.2

Thanks

Hi,

RAM can take your existing installation and migrate it (database,
persist area, everything) to the 7.5.0.2. You don't need to do a
tweaking or creating of duplicate.

All instructions are part of RAM:

Hi,

Could you please be more specific? What do you mean "Server Setup"? Or may be you could send me a document link that would help me to better understand what needs to be done?

Also, should I use the same database with the 7.1.1.1 assets for v7.5.0.2? Or should I create a new brand new database for v7.5?

Also, we have performed minor customization on v7.1.1.1 hence may need to do the same on v7.5.0.2. I am an IBMer, what is the procedure to go thru to get the RAM v7.5.0.2 source codes.

Thanks!

Hi,

It's all automatic. Make sure you use Server Setup to install 7.5.0.2
(please go DIRECTLY to 7.5.0.2, skip completely going to 7.5. 7.5 is
obsolete and a waste of time to install).

Since this is a major movement in versions of code I recommend that you
back up the persist area and the database before you move on up.

But you will need licenses for anything post 7.1.1.1. They use a
different set of licenses than 7.1.1.1 used.
