XML contents columns

DB2 v9 provides a XML data type to store XML contents in the column of a
table. Would it make sense to store the XML contents in XML columns rather
than CLOB columns in DB2 v9?

I have seen that today for db2, CLOB colunms are used for storing XML or for
storing text. Is there a way to distinguish when the mapping is done the
text contents from the XML contents?

Many Thanks,

Nicolas

It's a great idea, and I've just opened a work item to investigate the
latest XML support in DB2 V9. See
