Fetching all contributors for a versioned file/folder

I need API support to perform the following query: "Given a FileItem (current state of a versionable), fetch all contributors who have modified that versionable in the past". The "getModifiedBy()" method on "Versionable" gives the user who contributed towards the current state of the file. So, I need to reach the previous states of a versionable to meet my needs.

Can anyone please throw some light on how this can be possible?

I was able to do the following with help from Paul Komar. Thanks Paul.

Get all change sets for the versionable using: IScmService.getHistoryForVersionable()
Then, I use IChangeSet.getAuthor() to get the Contributor.
