What data is exposed through the CC and CQ Bridges?

Jonathan Belanger (3652) | asked Jun 04 '10, 1:55 p.m.
We are looking at writing a Bridge to allow a tool we are in the process of defining to be able to accessed by the likes of RTC and CC. We also want data from at least CC to be available through this bridge. The current plan is for the bridge to be very similar to the CQ Bridge. Is there a document which describes how to write a bridge, as well as what information is available through the CC Bridge and CQ Bridge for other, in this case, bridges to have access to?

Thanks.

This is disconcerting, no comments or replies in about a week. When talking with Gartner one of their negative comments about Jazz and RTC is that the only Bridge provider is IBM, which in their opinion is that Jazz is not being adopted significantly outside of IBM. Here I am considering producing a Bridge and I'm deafened by the din. Ah well, maybe we'll consider other solutions.

Jonathan,

I suspect part of the problem is the use of the term "bridge" which is a
very general concept. The use of the term "bridge" that I am familiar
with is the creation of links between work items in RTC and artifacts in
other systems. If this is the type of bridge you are referring to then
it would be better to ask the question on the forum in those terms (i.e.
the term "bridge" is not a universal term). However, if you are
interested in some other form of connection between your system and RTC,
you should state your query in terms of the type of functionality your
are looking for.

If it is links you are interested in, it turns out that there is a
significant effort going on in 3.0 to improve the RTC linking story by
using OSLC to provide linking between work items, change sets and other
artifacts that may be co-located on the same server or on different
servers. I'm not sure what documentation is available at this stage for
the work being done in 3.0 (i.e. I'm not working in that area) but if
this is the type of bridge you are referring to, here is a link to an
article on "bridging" GIT to RTC work items based on RTC 2.0.0.x.

There are links at the bottom of the article to documentation on
creating work item links using OSLC.

Hope this helps,
Michael

One note: Many of the active posters on this forum (including many/most
of the senior Rational developers) have been spending the week at the
Innovate 2010, the annual Rational user's conference, so a delay in
response to postings during that week should be expected.

Cheers,
Geoff

The type of "bridge" I am referring to is one just like the ClearQuest Bridge. We have a system that is, in large part, similar to CQ. We plan to use the CQ Bridge to integrate our CQ environment, and want to look at the possibility of integrating this other system as well. Since this other system is home grown, we'd have to implement this bridge ourselves and I was looking for any guidance or documentation that would help us determine feasibility and effort.

Sorry for my lack of knowledge around the various meanings of "bridge". I'm relatively new to all of this and was not aware.

Jonathan
