Default password for new users

Matthias Böhmer (1462019) | asked Feb 27 '08, 7:15 a.m.
How can i change the default password for new users? I have connected a mediawiki to the tomcat-users.xml, but mediawiki does not allow the same string for password and username.

We agree it would be useful but timeline for implementation is not set.

Will there be support for people who loose their password? It might be
useful for the project Admin to be able to invoke a process to reset a
user's password.

It is possible to retrieve the password from the tomcat-users.xml file
but in a real setting the project Admin does not necessarily have
access to this file...

Our LDAP integration at the application layer does not currently support
writing back to the LDAP registry (regardless of whether write is allowed in
the registry itself).

If the external registry service you are using is writeable, you can change
the password.

My experience is that this is not possible with the LDAP registries I have
tested against.

If you are using Jazz 0.6 Milestone 5, there is support in the Jazz client
for a user to change their own password.
Each user can in the Jazz client:

Open the Team Artifacts view
Expand the Repository Connections node
Right click on the correct repository connection>Adminster>Open Users...
Enter the user name and click OK
In the User editor that opens, they can click on the Change Password button.

On completion, the tomcat-users.xml will be updated with the new password.
As well, the repository connection will be logged in with the new password.

Currently no one but the user can change their password from the Jazz
client.
