License implications in a cluster

Revathi Subramanian (369) | asked May 12 '10, 3:43 p.m.
I am clustering RAM 7.2.0.2 on WAS ND 6.1.0.29
I created this topology in which I have 2 nodes, each having an app server that is member of the cluster. On one of the nodes, I installed rational license server. I know I have to download 2 sets of licenses (whether Standard or Enterprise edition).

Should I download licenses for each node(read host) in the cluster and import it into the license server?

Please install 7.2.0.2 test fix 1. If you don't then there will be
errors if you don't have the complete set of licenses installed, even
when you don't need them.

You will need one Enterprise Edition server license for each WAS Server
instance in the cluster (not per-WAS Node), you can have multiple server
instances on a node so you will need a license per server.

RAM doesn't support clustering for standard. You must use Enterprise to
support clustering.

You will then need either a set of enterprise publisher authorized
licenses or a set of enterprise publisher floating licenses. Depending
on what you need to do.

By default (if you haven't changed to a license server) a brand new RAM
will have a 60 day trial Enterprise license with unlimited users and
servers in a cluster. But either on a migration or once you change the
license server field the trial license is permanently lost.

Rich,

Thanks for the licensing information for the clusters. I was able to get past all my license errors after installing all the required licenses for enterprise edition. I'll let the test fix installation slide for now, if that's alright.
