Customizing Templates for Requirement or Defects
Hi,
How do i customize or add or modify the sections in Requirements or defects sections. I mean in RTC, through process configuration we can achieve this but how do i achieve this in RQM. Eg: I have tabs by default as Overview, Links, Approvals, History If i want to modify the sections in the above tabs or add more tabs to the same template or delete a tab or etc, how do i do it or where do i get the instructions for this. Thanks in Advance. Regards, Jay. |

Hi, In exactly the same way as RTC - open the Quality Manager project in RTC and configure the process template from there ... Be very careful however, changes you make to the process template for RQM could impact the functionality of RQM - rule of thumb . don't remove or rename anything that already exists ... add to only ! and most definitely don't create a new process template of RQM and create a new project based on this .. believe me I've done this and regretted it afterwards |
Hi Karen Steele,
Thanks for the info. Below are my queries on Templates and Process Templates. It would be great help if u can answer my below queries. 1) I would like to add / create new tabs in Requirement / Defects section in RQM. I have not integrated RTC and RQM. I mean i am only using RQM, in this case how do i Customize my Templates. ie: I would like to add few tabs and section in each tab. eg: Resolution info Tab, System info Tab. As per your earlier reply i know this can be done from RTC -> Process Templates but my question here is without using RTC can this be done through RQM. How do I achieve this without having RTC Integrated. I mean i want this modifications done from RQM server. 2) How to create Process Templates. I mean i am planning to create a new project and associate with new Process Template which i have created. Could you please explain me what are Process Template with some easy examples, real need of these templates, what all the info it contains, what are all changes i can do and how do i modify them and use them in the project. You can explain me using the predefined process template in RQM ie: Quality Manager Default Process Template. 3) What is the use of Deploy Predefined Templates button ? What does this do? 4) Also please let me know where i can find help or complete info on Process Tempalates which includes creation, modification and deployment. Thansk in Advance. Cheers, Jay. Hello Jay
You do not need to "integrate" RTC with RQM to do what you want. RQM has two "sides" to it: 1) the Jazz Work Item infrastructure which includes Defects, Requirements etc. 2) RQM specific infrastructure which includes all the "Quality Management" stuff like Test Plans, Test Cases, Test Suites etc In addition an RQM Project Area is a Jazz Project Area based on a Jazz template customised for Rational Quality Manager. So, to modify/customise anything in (1) above you use RTC as the "administrative interface" according to Karen's response. For the details of this and answers to many of your questions (and more) see http://jazz.net/library/article/398 To modify the RQM specific stuff in (2) (Test Plan /Test Case Templates, Categories etc) you login to the RQM Project through the RQM Web interface with a user that has administrative rights. Hi Freddy,
Thanks for the quick response. The http://jazz.net/library/article/398 url contains info on RTC, As i said you in my earlier post. I am interested in Modifying / Customizing the Defects Tabs and sections in RQM eg: Add a tab called system info in Defects template. So please point me where i can get this done from RQM. Can you also answer my earlier queries on Process Templates and Deploying and moidfying the Process Templates. Cheers, Jay. Hello Jay Hi Karen Steele, |
Dear Jay,
I am sailing in the same boat as you do. None tells me to do such configurations without having RTC integrated. RTC setupfiles that comes inbuilt in the RQM setup are currupt and it doesnt allow me to setup RTC. Without RTC it is not possible. IBM Developers push you to ask such questions on these forums, and on these forums very few people respond with good amount of details but not necessary that it will be completely useful. Some time I feel frustrated and curse my organisation to opt for Rational over HP Mercury!! But cost is the reason always! |
