For whatever reason, I see one or two spam messages in the forum every now and then. What can I do?

We have a couple administrators that monitor the web site and eventually ban the spammers removing their posts.

If you have the reputation and you see spam, you could tag the question as spam. This would help us to easily identify the spam message.

I have seen users downvoting questions that are spam. You can do that, but please be aware that that takes away one point from your reputation. Don't waste you reputation on spammers, it is just not worth it.  If you have few reputation, that could get you down to a level where certain activities are not allowed.

Thanks for the info Ralph. I'll stop downvoting them and continue to just report them as SPAM.

Isn't it ironic that a spammer spammed an answer on this question 3 hours after I posted it?

Indeed. See you've already taken care of it.
